It was originally supposed to be released to KickStarter backers on October 2013 but the beta was finally released in January of 2016 to KickStarter backers and then the rest of us in February of 2016. Basically a lot of people have waited a long time for the beta release. Plus there was a lot of people wanting to try it who didn't back it.

The free version of HitFilm can't export to UHD, which killed it for me. I've definitely been waiting for OpenShot, so thanks for the notice!

I've been checking this one out as a replacement to my old Sony Vegas MS - I was itching closer to trying out Blender VSE and Shotcut.
